Helpful tips

Here are some tips on how to create a Directory listing and take advantage of the semantic web features we have in place:

  • You may write as an opinionated advocate in the Directory -- neutral view is not required. You can sell products, promote videos, upload documents, even host your own Google AdSense ads. This auto-fill form will guide you through creating a very basic directory listing right now.
  • Because MyWikiBiz supports Semantic Web technology, search engine results are highly optimized. Internal searches can also be performed that wouldn't be possible on Google, MySpace, or Wikipedia.

A few favorite pages that might help acquaint a new user with the possibilities are found among the Demonstration links, or in these articles written by independent reviewers.

Naming pictures

Followfocus, it's just a suggestion and a personal preference of mine, but you might want to name your picture uploads here something more "identifiable" like "Water_worn_rocks.jpg" rather than B186d.jpg. This will make it easier for people to grok the pictures when looking at them in search lists and/or adding them to their own pages and galleries. Just an opinion. Let me know if you'd like me to re-name any of those you've already uploaded. -- MyWikiBiz 12:35, 4 April 2008 (PDT)

  • Ugh. I didn't know this, but apparently even I can't re-name an uploaded file, only article names can be renamed with my admin rights. So, you have the option of (1) deleting your photos and re-uploading them with more identifiable names that you decide upon at the time of your upload, (2) just thinking of better names from here on out, or (3) ignore my meddling advice anyhow. Good luck, Followfocus! -- MyWikiBiz 11:07, 9 April 2008 (PDT)

Question About Google Ad Placement

Hi Karen, I just got off the phone with your brother Greg. He mentioned to me that I should ask you about google ads. I tried to copy and paste the code that google spit out on my page but it does not work, so I just used the template already in the page and then added my pub number to it. How do I place ads n my page the way google intended? They have some really neat ad types that I would love to incorporate. Thanks! I am new to this type of coding, so its taking me a bit of time to get used to how it all works! Thanks so much in advance! Followfocus
