The USS Liberty attack was an incident involving a U.S. Navy intelligence ship, USS Liberty (AGTR-5), in international waters about 12.5 nautical miles (23 km) off the Mediterranean coast of the Sinai Peninsula, north of the Egyptian town of El Arish. The ship was attacked by Israeli Air Force fighter planes and torpedo boats on June 8, 1967.
