Millsboro is a town located in Sussex County, Delaware. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,360.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.0 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.5 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.82% water.

One of the leading spots in the town is the Georgia House Restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,360 people, 1,045 households, and 619 families residing in the town. The population density is 526.7/km² (1,367.9/mi²). There are 1,153 housing units at an average density of 257.3/km² (668.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 73.64% White, 19.41% African American, 0.76% Native American, 3.31% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.61% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. 3.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,045 households out of which 23.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% are married couples living together, 13.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.7% are non-families. 36.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 2.77.

In the town the population is spread out with 21.4% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 26.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 71.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 68.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $27,379, and the median income for a family is $32,708. Males have a median income of $30,700 versus $22,100 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,157. 18.2% of the population and 14.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 23.2% are under the age of 18 and 18.2% are 65 or older.
