Sun Peaks Resort is a year round ski resortlocated approximately 50 km (a 45 minute drive) northeast of Kamloops, in beautiful British Columbia’s sunny interior. And only a 4-hour drive, or quick flight, from Vancouver. The resort’s unique geographic location annually receives six metres of light, dry snow and, ironically, 2,000 hours of sunshine too! Can you say, “bluebird powder days?”

From the rough and tumble days of Tod Mountain, Sun Peaks has evolved into one of the leading ski experiences in Canada. The resort offers surprising diversity across its three unique mountains: Tod Mountain, Mount Morrisey, and Sundance Mountain. Gladed areas. Bumps. Steeps. Long cruisers. Alpine bowls. Progressive park. It’s all here, and the closest you’ll get to another person is on the chairlift.

BC winter activities include: downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing holidays and snowshoeing.

BC summer activities include: downhill mountain biking, bc hiking trails and golf vacations.

Sun Peaks Resort also attracts foodies with a wide selection of restaurants and annual food and wine festivals.

The Village, a Genuine Community

How can one describe the village vibe? The welcoming personality of Sun Peaks is truly infectious. The resort is more than a fourseason mountain retreat; it’s a vibrant community that many guests have chosen to call home. Discover for yourself why the resort generates BC’s most loyal and proud ambassadors.

Modern, yet attractively quaint, Sun Peaks is truly family-focused and was created with total convenience in mind. Nestled at the base of the lifts, in the heart of the resort, lies the picturesque ski-through village. The compact hamlet of 7,000 beds features covered walkways, appealing hotels, unique boutique shops, intimate cafés, and comfortable restaurants that offer diverse culinary options. To enjoy it all you needn’t worry about having a vehicle since everything is within easy walking distance. If you do bring a car, simply park and forget all about it.

Get to know our local characters who always deliver genuine ‘Peaks’ hospitality; guests are truly appreciated here. From the good-natured Sun Guides who reveal the mountains’ lines and stashes, to the dedicated business owners who personally serve you, each recognize the importance of providing you with your finest vacation experience. And, as a mountain community, we all enjoy sharing life’s simple pleasures: first tracks on a powder day, casual drinks by a cozy fire, friendly chairlift conversations, silly photos, and sporting the best goggle tan.

We believe your vacation is all about you. Sun Peaks Resort BC vacation packages and getaways are uncomplicated and always promise true relaxation and overall enjoyment.

History

In 1961, Sun Peaks Resort, then known as Tod Mountain, began with a single chairlift, the Burfield. The Burfield was at the time the longest chairlift in North America! At the time there were very few amenities. The current log-structure administrative building at the foot of the Burfield chair was Tod Mountain's restaurant, lodge, and mountain ticket sales centre all in one. In 1968 the Burfield chairlift was damaged by fire and did not reopen until December 1970.

Tod Mountain was bought by Nippon Cable Company Ltd. of Tokyo in 1992. Since this time Ecosign Mountain Resort Planners Ltd. have been the prime consultant and project planners for the transformation of Tod Mountain Ski Area into Sun Peaks Resort.

Soon after the new ownership of the BC resort, new runs were built in addition to three new lifts (2 quads), and new facilities and infrastructure. The first nine hole of the golf course were also built and the final nine were completed in 2005. Also added were the village's day lodge, a snowboard park, a 35 million-gallon snowmaking reservoir, a building and facilities for the Snowsports School, and even a whole new mountain - Mount Morrissey.

In 2006 a new quad lift “the Elevation” was added to Sun Peaks Resort, along with new runs on the area known as Orient Ridge. Each year the Austrian National Ski team trains at Sun Peaks on the Nancy Greene Race Centre.
