==Question About Interwikis==

You probably know where we're going with this - if you come across anything, could you let me know? Otherwise, I may have to cobble something together myself from scratch. [[User:Centiare|Centiare]] 13:41, 11 December 2006 (PST)

JA: I copied our article on [[Inquiry]] over to the [http://www.p2pfoundation.net/Main_Page P2P Foundation Wiki], so it looks like [http://www.p2pfoundation.net/Inquiry this] over there and I asked the Chief Cook there, [http://www.p2pfoundation.net/Talk:Bauwens%2C_Michel#Interwikis Michel Bauwens], if he could make a Mywikibiz interwiki to cover the resulting redlinks, but he didn't know how to do that, so I was wondering if it was something that was simple enough to explain to him?  TIA, [[User:Jon Awbrey|Jon Awbrey]] 12:38, 17 January 2008 (PST)

==Subsidiary listings==

:This looks to be quite complicated, involving scripts to the database. I'll keep researching hoping to discover a more simplified explanation than [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Interwiki_map here] --[[User:OmniMediaGroup|OmniMediaGroup]] 13:31, 17 January 2008 (PST)
Karen, I've been talking to Greg about an easy way for you to create separate listings for your various blog properties, and then summarizing them at your primary Directory listing. You can see an example schedule at [[Directory:MyWikiBiz|MyWikiBiz]]. We can go over a slightly more automated approach if you're interested. ==Question About RDF Export==
Example of others that have listed OMG as a friend:

<ask>

JA: I don't know anything about RDF, but I notice that our RDF Export pages come up a lot on Google searches before anything else does.  However, they all seem to contain a lot of references to Centiare URLs, so I was wondering if this was a problem from a SEO standpoint.  For example, see:

JA: Thanks, [[User:Jon Awbrey|Jon Awbrey]] 13:38, 20 January 2008 (PST)

This is exactly how one would create a query to list all subsidiaries of a given company, properties/websites/blogs controlled by an individual, papers/presentations given by an academic, etc.

Based on a conversation I had with Dad this morning, I think we're mere hours away from him opening an account on Centiare.  Pretty amazing when a new Internet space utilizing the cutting edge in semantic technology can draw in a 73-year-old man whose most recent programming tasks were probably in COBOL. --[[User:Gkohs|Gkohs]] 08:58, 30 December 2006 (PST)

== Semantic tags ==

I'm going to be compiling about 8 or 10 semantic attributes on the airline disasters:
 +
#Aircraft type
 +
#Airline
 +
#State (where crash occurred)
 +
#Nearest airport
 +
#Cause (Air traffic control, Weather, Wildlife, Mechanical flaw, Instrument failure, Hijacking, Pilot error, Military engagement)
 +
#Passengers (including crew)
 +
#Fatalities
 +
#Survivors
 +
#Date
 +
That last one, I'm curious to get your opinion.  What's the best way to format the date so that it can be properly sorted in an ASK query table?  Should I just go with year?  I don't want the table sorting all the January dates, then the February dates, etc.  -- [[User:MyWikiBiz|MyWikiBiz]] 07:04, 8 April 2008 (PDT)

==Question About Google Ad Placement==
#Semantic tags (even the State of Georgia "belongs" to Country:USA, you know?)
+
Hi Karen, I just got off the phone with your brother Greg. He mentioned to me that I should ask you about google ads. I tried to copy and paste the code that google spit out on my page but it does not work, so I just used the template already in the page and then added my pub number to it. How do I place ads n my page the way google intended? They have some really neat ad types that I would love to incorporate. Thanks! I am new to this type of coding, so its taking me a bit of time to get used to how it all works! Thanks so much in advance!

One thing I'm going to emphasize is the decision one must make between creating an attribute or relation for non-numeric values. That is, the logic is pretty clear about creating attributes for values like population, revenues, etc.
+
== Could you please clear one deletion log from your March 22 2009 archive? ==

Where it can get a little fuzzy is if the value '''''could be''''' a relation (ie target page in which to create a relationship between articles). In this case, you can still choose to use an attribute, like CEO for a job title, BA for degree, etc, rather than a relation to main space articles that define/explain the meaning of those terms.
+
It lists the name '''"if the name is ???xxx??? don't use it here, it will get crawled by Google"''', the name of my client in which he wishes his name have nothing to do with this site. And when you google his name, the Washington and Wisconsin archive lists his name. After you fulfill this request, I kindly ask that you erase his name from this post as well. Thank you.

In the case of recipe_name, you start moving down the path closer to creating a relationship, especially if you anticipate creating stand-alone recipe pages in the future. Situations where relationships already work really well can be seen with the city->county->state->country roll-ups, etc.
+
Got you covered --[[User:OmniMediaGroup|OmniMediaGroup]] 07:56, 8 April 2009 (PDT)

Finally, there's the issue of ''ordinal'' identification ie situations where there may be multiple values '''OR''' associations between values, such as degree(s)<->year(s). Right now, relationships don't handle either very well (typically, they need an additional category identifier), but attributes are just the ticket. So even if something was logically a relationship, if you're going to have a complex data set, you may decide to use attributes instead. [[User:Centiare|Centiare]] 09:11, 13 January 2007 (PST)
+
== Oh, actually it's on the 21 March 2009 archive of the Washington and Wisconsin archive ==

==Main Space Articles==
+
Typo on the date. Is it cleared alraedy by the way? I'm guessing Google cache would no longer crawl it eventually.
Karen, if you label an article 'recipe:apple pie', you're creating a Main space entry. That is, since there isn't a namespace 'recipe', the entry goes into the main space - the colon just happens to be part of the title.

Now, this isn't to say one can't use titles with colons in the Main space, nor is it saying that recipes don't belong in the Main space. It's just that anything in the mainspace needs to conform to NPOV + they can't be linked back to commercial directory listings unless they are approved by the [[Centiare:ERB]].
+
== It's still listed in the Wisconsin archive and crawled by Google. ==

What you may consider doing is creating a directory entry as a collection point for your recipes, then create them as subpages, along with relationships between each recipe and the page to which they relate. (Greg, do you want to take care of deleting/moving these entries?) [[User:Centiare|Centiare]] 09:32, 13 January 2007 (PST)
+
Kindly delete it from the Wisconsin archive. Please and thank you.

:OK, I created [[Relation:Recipe Of]] & [[Relation:Has Recipe]]. All you have to do is create a collection point, then list each individual recipe with the 'Has Recipe' tag. Likewise, you can use the tag 'Recipe Of' within each individual recipe to associate it with its collection point.

:When in doubt, the Berlin<->Germany example is perfect for clarifying relationships: Capital Of and Has Capital. Almost all relationships can be structured in this type of subsidiary<->parent framework; that means all one has to do is think through which is which. OMG, your listings look great. At some point, you might want to consider creating add'l subpages to act like books/chapters. That way, you could organize the different recipe types & use the front page as a top-level lead-in/index.

What's really nice about ASK, as you've seen so far with your main listings, is that the recipes don't need to reside in any specific directories in order to pull them up into a summary report. That's the real essence of a flat structure - one that will come into play with the government roll-ups, as well as other large scale organizational projects. ::When everything is said & done, the true nature of the power of A/C/R (attribute/category/relation) chains is going to blow people away. In effect, semantics create a full blown relational DB structure - at the user level in the form of a wiki! during the recent server move.
The way <nowiki><embed>...</embed></nowiki> currently works, you need to include the entire web address between the tags. That is, for either [[Centiare:Extensions|Google/Widget extensions]], configure the gadget you want at '''''their site''''', then copy over the entire address string.

If the one you're working on right now (statcounter) doesn't work that way, I can look into creating another custom extension like <nowiki><adsense></nowiki> that takes a list of parameters. [[User:Snerfling|Snerfling]] 08:48, 7 February 2007 (PST)

:StatCounter is working fine with the <nowiki><embed>...</embed></nowiki> as is. It is a <nowiki><script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"></nowiki> which provides reports similar to Google Analytics. Does this mean all scripts of this type will work with <nowiki><embed>...</embed></nowiki>? --[[User:OmniMediaGroup|OmniMediaGroup]] 09:17, 7 February 2007 (PST)

:Jon, could you give us an example of a link placed at another site that doesn't "work" when clicked over to here?  I've tried both of your links above, and they both work -- one on its own merit, and the other as a redirect. -- [[User:MyWikiBiz|MyWikiBiz]] 19:42, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

::Yeah, it's a generic script enabler. That's why you have to include the entire web address + any specific script commands. The alternative would be to create a bunch of different parser extensions for each web site. While they would be simpler to use (eg <nowiki><adsense></nowiki> requires only its particular parameters), it could turn out to be a management nightmare. Garrett would like to modify your state listings. You can see my comments [[User_talk:Snerfling#50_States|here]] regarding limiting our efforts to TX. But the recent recoding puts a kink in the redirect from that.  And I keep finding similar variants that I have to fix one by one.  I can't change the links on email posts because those are fixed forever.  Just seems like it would be easier to move the page back where it was, since that's still a valid title here, I think. ::: For safe keeping
You and [[User:Garrett]] are both beginning to include movie information. I was waiting for this to eventually happen. Before you proceed any further, I think now is the time to huddle up and determine the correct set of tags - in effect, creating the de facto Centiare standard for movie info.

My suggestion is that we utilize the methodology used at IMDB - it seems pretty universal. Let the three of us discuss this/work out a solution over at [[Centiare:Water Cooler (technical)|Water Cooler]].

Karen, I've been talking to Greg about utilizing scripts within directory listings to improve their usability, thus links & page ranks. Since you've got so many pages, I will direct this question towards you: what types of information scripts exist that you could add to improve reader interest?

Example: KJ Kitchens - what types of dining RSS feeds or widgets summarizing recent books, restaurant openings, reviews, etc can be added to these pages? How would they be integrated with the sem tags? Should maps be added to specific geo directory listings? IOW, if you can boost your Centiare page to #1, how do you do it & what is there when a reader clicks through to the listing? [[User:Snerfling|Snerfling]] 12:50, 9 May 2007 (PDT)
+
== how did you implement that "nonumtoc" thingie? ==

:None of the java scripts improve SEO. They are not readable by search engines. If there is some way that you can add an RSS to PHP script to Centiare, that type of script actually embeds RSS content when rendering to html making it readable to search engines.
+
I need to try and add one to another mediawiki site.  [[User:Jon Awbrey|Jon Awbrey]] 15:04, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

:Another concern of mine is the meta data produced in Centiare pages. Check out the page source of any Directory page. The keyword meta data is the attribute name NOT the value of the attribute. Is this something you can control? --[[User:OmniMediaGroup|OmniMediaGroup]] 14:12, 9 May 2007 (PDT)

::I should have been more clear - what types of scripts will improve content (quality, quantity & experience/usability [eg interactive calorie conversion charts, etc]) and drive increased '''readership''', thereby increasing the # of external links, and thus page rankings? (Scripts are/can be read by search engines - they're either not included and/or assigned lower values within the search algorithms.) As an added plus, can they be added to or incorporated within sem tags?

:It will be better than the RSS Include that Garrett and I have been using because the feed content is included in the page source and the search engines see a fresh page of content every time they crawl. It will help populate empty pages with content. '''IF''' you can get it working will you set the default number of feeds to 15 instead of 5.

==Ownership templates==

They work really well to interlink things together. Each one of my businesses and clients have upwards of 200 links. It's time consuming to slap a template when you own so many pages but it pays off when google puts you at the top. I've created color templates

==Google Maps==

I like the maps you've added to a few states. Here's a suggestion for you & Garrett: you might consider adding something like a "top 5" attractions list that (a) ties into the primary regional map, and (b) have their own respective listings (eg New York [or Ontario] -> Niagra Falls). Then, at each individual listing, you could add a more detailed map, a weather box, travel info, dining/lodging recommendations/blogs, photo albums, etc. '''''all from flash/java scripts'''''. If they don't yet exist, trust me, they will. 16:15, 16 May 2007 (PDT)

: We could do '''<u>all</u>''' that you have suggested if you could install [http://www.google.com/apis/maps/ Google Maps API]

: The Google Maps API lets you embed Google Maps in web pages with JavaScript. You can add overlays to the map (including markers and polylines) and display shadowed "info windows". Google Maps API is required to run the MediaWiki [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Google_Maps Extension:Google Maps] that I asked about installing about a week ago. Is this installation still in the works? I would rather wait for this option because the Aardvark Map option really has too many limitations.--[[User:OmniMediaGroup|OmniMediaGroup]] 07:30, 17 May 2007 (PDT)

Question About Interwikis

JA: I copied our article on Inquiry over to the P2P Foundation Wiki, so it looks like this over there and I asked the Chief Cook there, Michel Bauwens, if he could make a Mywikibiz interwiki to cover the resulting redlinks, but he didn't know how to do that, so I was wondering if it was something that was simple enough to explain to him? TIA, Jon Awbrey 12:38, 17 January 2008 (PST)

This looks to be quite complicated, involving scripts to the database. I'll keep researching hoping to discover a more simplified explanation than here --OmniMediaGroup 13:31, 17 January 2008 (PST)

Question About RDF Export

JA: I don't know anything about RDF, but I notice that our RDF Export pages come up a lot on Google searches before anything else does. However, they all seem to contain a lot of references to Centiare URLs, so I was wondering if this was a problem from a SEO standpoint. For example, see:

JA: Thanks, Jon Awbrey 13:38, 20 January 2008 (PST)

Thanks for bringing this SEO problem to my attention. I'll see if I can fix this in the semantic settings file that I previously overlooked. --OmniMediaGroup 14:04, 20 January 2008 (PST)

Best format for semantic dates

I'm going to be compiling about 8 or 10 semantic attributes on the airline disasters:

  1. Aircraft type
  2. Airline
  3. State (where crash occurred)
  4. Nearest airport
  5. Cause (Air traffic control, Weather, Wildlife, Mechanical flaw, Instrument failure, Hijacking, Pilot error, Military engagement)
  6. Passengers (including crew)
  7. Fatalities
  8. Survivors
  9. Date

That last one, I'm curious to get your opinion. What's the best way to format the date so that it can be properly sorted in an ASK query table? Should I just go with year? I don't want the table sorting all the January dates, then the February dates, etc. -- MyWikiBiz 07:04, 8 April 2008 (PDT)

I'd say go with YYYY-MM-DD as show on Attribute:Date --OmniMediaGroup 09:08, 8 April 2008 (PDT)

Question About Google Ad Placement

Hi Karen, I just got off the phone with your brother Greg. He mentioned to me that I should ask you about google ads. I tried to copy and paste the code that google spit out on my page but it does not work, so I just used the template already in the page and then added my pub number to it. How do I place ads n my page the way google intended? They have some really neat ad types that I would love to incorporate. Thanks! I am new to this type of coding, so its taking me a bit of time to get used to how it all works! Thanks so much in advance!

Could you please clear one deletion log from your March 22 2009 archive?

It lists the name "if the name is ???xxx??? don't use it here, it will get crawled by Google", the name of my client in which he wishes his name have nothing to do with this site. And when you google his name, the Washington and Wisconsin archive lists his name. After you fulfill this request, I kindly ask that you erase his name from this post as well. Thank you.

Oh, actually it's on the 21 March 2009 archive of the Washington and Wisconsin archive

Typo on the date. Is it cleared alraedy by the way? I'm guessing Google cache would no longer crawl it eventually.

It's still listed in the Wisconsin archive and crawled by Google.

Kindly delete it from the Wisconsin archive. Please and thank you.

I made a few changes to the article, adding feeds for fresh content for the Google spiders. Give it a few days. MyWikibiz's "recent changes" are on Google's FeedBurner. Every time an article has an edit, Google re-indexes the page. --OmniMediaGroup 10:07, 25 February 2010 (PST)

Title recoding during recent server move?

It looks like the article titled

Directory:Jon Awbrey/Papers/Information = Comprehension × Extension

got recoded as

Directory:Jon Awbrey/Papers/Information = Comprehension × Extension

during the recent server move.

I tried to fix it with a redirect, but it's still causing problems with links I've placed at other sites. It looks like the original code is still a valid title here, so maybe the page could just be moved back to that? Jon Awbrey 19:18, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Jon, could you give us an example of a link placed at another site that doesn't "work" when clicked over to here? I've tried both of your links above, and they both work -- one on its own merit, and the other as a redirect. -- MyWikiBiz 19:42, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

For instance, some sites and discussion lists force me to use the alias:

But the recent recoding puts a kink in the redirect from that. And I keep finding similar variants that I have to fix one by one. I can't change the links on email posts because those are fixed forever. Just seems like it would be easier to move the page back where it was, since that's still a valid title here, I think. Lost Articles

My last attempt to edit the logical graph article resulted in a blank page and it won't let me edit again. Jon Awbrey 04:20, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

I think we got the page back minus edits. Greg will be talking to the wiki expert soon to discuss some of these long page edit issues. I believe it has something to do with the page log compression. --OmniMediaGroup 17:24, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
The page came back but when I tried to edit a small section it goes blank again in the middle of the <action=submit> command. The aborted edit gets logged in my contrib history but not in recent changes. Jon Awbrey 17:30, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
