The research group was established in 1996 as a co-operative venture of six state universities: [[University of Chieti|Chieti]], [[University of Genoa|Genoa]], [[University of Padua|Padua]], [[University of Perugia|Perugia]], [[University of Pisa|Pisa]] and [[University of Turin|Turin]].
