ERNIE PYLE STATE HISTORIC SITE, .5 mi. n. of US 36 on SR 71, was the birthplace of Ernie Pyle, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who gained national acclaim for his work as a correspondent during World War II. The restored farmhouse, typical of a Midwestern house of 1900, is decorated with photographs and Victorian furniture and antiques. Pyle memorabilia, ine eluding his books and newspaper columns, are exhibited. Two World War II Quonset huts serve as the visitor center. Allow 30 minutes minimum. Tues.-Sat. 9-5, Sun. 1-5, mid-Mar. to mid-Dec.; closed holidays except Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day. Donations. Phone (765) 665-3633.
