Helpful tips

Here are some tips on how to create a Directory listing and take advantage of the semantic web features we have in place:

  • You may write as an opinionated advocate in the Directory -- neutral view is not required. You can sell products, promote videos, upload documents, even host your own Google AdSense ads. This auto-fill form will guide you through creating a very basic directory listing right now.
  • Because MyWikiBiz supports Semantic Web technology, search engine results are highly optimized. Internal searches can also be performed that wouldn't be possible on Google, MySpace, or Wikipedia.

A few favorite pages that might help acquaint a new user with the possibilities are found among the Demonstration links, or in these articles written by independent reviewers.

RSS feed

Andrew, we came up with this to try to help you with the RSS feed. Let us know if it works. -- MyWikiBiz 12:08, 18 January 2009 (PST)

Image uploads

AndrewM, I would absolutely suspect that a 5 megabyte image is going to choke our Mediawiki application on the server. I would suggest shooting for a resampled version of the images, down to about 300 KB or less. Then, if you still have any troubles, I will look into it. Smaller pictures are also to be appreciated by the management, since we pay for hosting by-the-byte. -- MyWikiBiz 14:53, 1 February 2009 (PST)

Help with "promotion"

Andrew, you're writing some incredible content. However, I'm concerned that it will not be picked up readily by the search engine crawlers, because you've not really used wiki-linking or semantic tags to more fully optimize the page for search engines. If you don't mind me poking around what is assuredly your page, I might be able to help you with that. (Or, is it not a concern for you, if the wider world doesn't discover your journal?) -- MyWikiBiz 19:39, 3 February 2009 (PST)

That would be wonderful, Greg - I decided to take up putting my travelog on MWB to accomodate for people who did not have Facebook or were friends with me on it (I originally spawned this project there). Indeed, if I wanted it to remain privy to only 400-odd people, I would have just kept it on Facebook, but my whole intent of mirroring it on MWB was to disseminate it to the wider world. As you might have guessed, I am not really versed in how the MWB brand of MediaWiki functions, so I missed the entire semantic tags dealio. With that said, I would absolutely appreciate you optimize my page for search engines so that it can be discovered - I plan on writing more and using MWB as my main outpost.
It's still a work in progress - I plan on writing maybe two or three more entries then tidying up typos, adding missing dates, etc. You can start working on the semantic tags now, though, since I intended this to be viewed as my trip progressed. Thanks aplenty for offering this! AndrewM 06:47, 4 February 2009 (PST)
