Le Page is one of several semanticists at the [[University of Paris]] in the second quarter of the 13th century (others include [[Nicholas of Paris]] and , to a lesser extent, [[Peter of Spain]]), who try to explain how a syncategorematic term has meaning in one sense and in another sense not, by appealing to a distinction between ''significatio generalis'' or signification in general, and ''signification specialis'', or specific signification.
