Born in a vedic pandits family, Sastry's father, V.Subrahmanya Sastry is the first one, who pursued a post graduate degree and in turn got his son well educated in the area of management with a specialization in finance. Sastry's grand father, Lakshmi Narasimha Sastry is a well known sanskrit scholar, who taught sanskrit to, Satyasai Baba of Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh.
