PhotoEdit Inc. is a stock photography agency located in southern California. Conceived in the early 1980's, it was originally located in Long Beach, California until mid-2008, when it relocated to Costa Mesa, in the heart of Orange County, California.
PhotoEdit is slightly different from other stock agencies in the sense that it focuses primarily on images for textbooks. Its main strength is the wide range of its ethnic pictures, ensuring that each culture and ethnicity is fairly and positively represented. With its slogan of "Capturing Diversity," PhotoEdit has been and continues to be a leader in the fields of ethnic and educational pictures.
Though the company's main niche in stock photography is ethnic and minority pictures, PhotoEdit also has a diverse and eclectic database of other photos that are extremely well suited to almost any application. In particular, strong collections of handicapped pictures, political pictures, and gay and lesbian pictures are present, along with an all-new category devoted to professional medical illustrations perfect for use in the courtroom or classroom. Additionally, PhotoEdit provides free photo research if you are unable to find the appropriate image in their database, and if all else fails, the company photographers can shoot the images on spec, usually for free.
In late 2008, PhotoEdit launched a new website which featured vast improvements over the previous model. Special image galleries, coupled with a new section for archived newsletters and photographer interviews, brought a greater wealth of content to the online experience. High-res downloads direct from the site itself streamlined the purchase process. In the future, PhotoEdit hopes to launch its own blog and continue to offer new content on its main site, including a press box and free image galleries.
PhotoEdit is owned by James Publishing, a leading law publisher also located in Costa Mesa, California.
