Big Faceless PDF Library is a commercial Java API for reading and writing Portable Document Format(PDF) documents, first released in June 2001. There are three versions available:
- The Standard Edition allows the creation of new PDF documents.
- The Extended Edition adds the ability to read, edit and save existing PDF documents, and to read and write values from the PDF Form, including XFA forms and Electronic signatures.
- The Extended Edition plus Viewer adds the ability to render a PDF to a Bitmap image, for printing with the Java Print API or for display on screen. The "Viewer" is a set of Swing components which can be used to display and edit PDF's in a similar fashion to Adobe Acrobat in an applet, a standalone application or as part of a larger application.
The Java packages that make up the Big Faceless PDF Library are
org.faceless.pdf2- the core of the library for reading, writing and editing PDF documents
org.faceless.pdf2.viewer2- the core Swing components making up the Viewer
org.faceless.pdf2.viewer2.feature- the set of optional features that can be integrated into the Viewer
Source Code and Licensing
Source code for the Swing components making up the Viewer is supplied with the library, although the license restricts their use to projects making using of the PDF Library. Source code for the rest of the library is not available.
Licensing is typically done based on the number of CPUs, although OEM licensing is also available.
