After publishing his book, he partnered with the Aviation Employment Placement Service (AEPS), one of the first on-line job placement services. AEPS purchased the Universal Pilot Application Service (UPAS) in 1999, and Kirkwood was installed as President. Poor fiscal management by AEPS owner James N. Dent dragged both companies into bankruptcy by early 2001.
