After completing 4 years of Naval Reserve Officers Training and graduating from Lithonia High School in Lithonia Georgia, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps as an E-2. Immediately after his initial training, PFC Arthur Pledger reported to Third Intelligence Battalion to serve under LT Colonel Felix Cubillo as a Ground Sensor Control and Management Specialist. During his tour, then PFC Arthur Pledger participated in several high profile operations, including Ulchi Focus Lens, and the surveillance of the entire island of Okinawa during the Group of 8 or G8 Summit in 2000, where Then President Bill Clinton first introduced Global Health as a topic of interest.
