Tony Wang (born November 6th 1989) is an American-Chinese fashion designer & fashion blogger. He has his own fashion label TONY WANG that produces contemporary wear for men and women.Tony Wang is also a fashion blogger and the editor-in-chief of his self-started blogger collective [the3st].

Involvement in Fashion

Fashion Designer

It was in his junior year of high school that he also conceived of his clothing line TONY WANG. Having been inspired from a trip to his birth state of New York, he began to create a concept portfolio of men's pieces inspired by the motifs of waves and roots. After he created the portfolio, he decided to try to get it created by a manufacturer. Through his various cold calls and efforts, he was able to secure a meeting with the president of a large Shenzhen based clothing manufacturer. The president was highly impressed by the portfolio but could not create any clothing unless Tony had also done the design specifications. Since Tony had no technical background, he could not offer the president such specifications. [1]

Tony was determined to create his clothing line so he self-taught himself design specifications and other technical aspects of fashion by going online and reading free, online fashion design resources such as lecture slides from fashion schools indexed by Google. He spent a year learning how to create pieces and translating his collection into design specs over the course of his senior year.[2]After teaching himself the art of fashion design, he re-contacted the manufacturer and was able to get his pieces created. His first collection, entitled 3st, consists of five pieces of urban wear for men and women and was launched in March 2009. In order to prepare for the launch, Tony Wang also created his own website for his clothing line, [1].

The collection is currently carried by Matthew Izzo, a fashion boutique in Philadelphia.[3]

Tony Wang is currently a student at the University of Pennsylvania at The Wharton School where he is studying Finance, Entrepreneurship/Innovation, and Operations and Information Management. He also has been actively involved in the development of Penn's fashion presence by being a coordinator and host for the first ever BCBGeneration WAX Walk Off. [4]

Tony Wang is also known for his presence in the blogging community as a reputable fashion blogger. His blog, [the3st], is a nationally read fashion/arts blog that draws in general consumers and important members of the fashion community. His readership includes William Baer the Senior VP of HR at Bloomingdales and Harriet Sternberg, an executive producer of America's Best Dance Crew, and various directors of the [Gilt Groupe]. His blog has been interviewed by Seventeen magazine . He has been asked to attend various fashion events as a fashion muse.[1]

Tony Wang first started the website [the3st] in October of 2008. However, the fashion blog's current vision as a "creative collective of individual in pursuit of fashion" was only implemented in October of 2009. The blog has come to include other writers. He currently manages around ten authors and acts as the editor-in-chief of the blog while still being an active blogger. Under Tony's direction, [the3st] currently specializes in interviewing and identifying top new talent in the fashion world and exposing them to the national community. Amongst the interviews, [the3st] has covered Dora Mojzes, Lisa Perry, and Marina Makaron.[1]
