Since 1989, Cars For Keeps has been the place to take your vehicle for any inspections, repairs, or preventive maintenance services that you need.

Cars For Keeps is a AAA Approved Repair Shop, meaning it meets the rigorous standards of the American Automobile Association. An approved shop must meet standards for cleanliness, proper tools, adequate technical training, and appropriate technician certifications. In addition to having an impeccable repair shop, an approved facility must have a favorable opinion rating amongst its clients: AAA performs a survey of a significant number of the shop's clients and obtains their opinions "on how well the business meets their automotive service needs." The shop must score at least 90% on each question. Cars For Keeps averaged above 98% on each question.

Cars For Keeps is one of only three AAA Approved Shops in Ottawa county and the only one in the Tri-Cities.

ASE Blue Seal of Excellence recognition has been achieved for eight years running. Cars For Keeps is recognized by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Cars For Keeps is the only ASE recognized shop in the Tri-Cities.

At Cars For Keeps, we take care of our neighbors, one car at a time. Owner Rob Hopp is an ASE Master Mechanic, and along with Service Manager Dennis Sweet, they screen and then train all employees to meet their high standards of honest and ethical work.

Our goal is to educate clients about the importance of a preventive approach to auto care, a proven way to save thousands of dollars over the life of each vehicle in a household. Carrying that informative approach beyond preventive service, we strive to ensure that every client makes an informed decision about their car's repairs.

In 1988 Rob Hopp moved from Grand Rapids to Spring Lake, fulfilling a longtime dream of living near the lake shore.

Recognizing the need for a high quality automotive service company on the lake shore, Automotive Advantage was started in November of 1990.

In May of 1991 we took possession of our Ferrysburg location. Following extensive renovations we moved in where we continued to grow and expand our range of services.

In 1995, after building our reputation for the finest import auto service in the area, we changed our name from Automotive Advantage Import Services to Automotive Advantage to better reflect our expanded capabilities and investment in training, equipment and specialty tooling to provide service for all makes and models of cars and light trucks.

Early in 2002, we were chosen as the areas only ASE Blue Seal of Excellence Garage. The program’s emphasis is to identify establishments with a large percentage of ASE-certified professionals. It is a recognition program for businesses striving to be the best, and willing to prove their commitment.

In 2003, we achieved Bosch Car Service recognition. Affiliation with the Robert Bosch Corporation gives us access to technical information, training and parts relationships that fewer than 1,500 other garages in the nation have access to.

In May of 2004, we acquired the distressed building at 1050 Fulton Avenue in Grand Haven Michigan. After extensive renovations, our operations were moved in and ready to serve our customers on September 7, 2004. In April of 2007, Cars For Keeps was recognized as an AAA Approved Auto Repair Facility.

The AAA (American Automobile Association) inspects each repair facility for competency of technicians, proper equipment, existence of ongoing training programs, community reputation, cleanliness, and appearance.

All AAR facilities have met Their strict standards for quality and offer the following benefits:

• Complete service on the models they repair including: brakes, alignments & electrical repairs
• Knowledgeable and courteous support staff
• Highly skilled service personnel
• Fully licensed and insured

All AAR Facilities also offer a minimum 12 month/12,000 mile limited warranty on all repair work.

I late 2008 we began the transition to a new name that better matches our philosophy.

Cars For Keeps.
