Online dating is a way for individuals to communicate through a web site platform openly in the interest of finding a new date, love, friend and even marriage. There are literally thousands of dating web sites and they range in size and description.

Paid Dating Sites

This is the oldest and arguably largest segment of online dating, users pay a fee usually a monthly fee and for this they can interact with other members. Most of these sites are quite basic and offer a more controlled user environment. Studies do show the customer service satisfaction isn’t necessarily better when you pay for online dating.

Free Online Dating

The big difference here of course is that the service is free. Some complain that because of the lack of fees the quality of users isn’t as good as a paid dating site. Many free online dating sites offer more features such as forums and other ways to communicate. Revenue is usually generated from click advertising.

Niche Dating

This is a growing market where sites are geared towards a specific demographic. Some of the more popular niche dating sites are specific to sexual orientation, religion, race and there are even sites for people that like exercise and listen to heavy metal music.
