MyHammer is an online market place for consumer services with more than 800,000 registered users. Today it is the largest online platform of the consumer service industry and available in English and German. It was first launchend in Germany in 2005 and entered the British market in May 2008. Nowadays it is the largest website of its kind in the UK, Germany and Austria. MyHammer is owned by the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group and is an affiliate of the German conglomerate Abacho AG that offers services in internet search and as a web portal.[1]

Products and operation

The platform of MyHammer hosts services available in several home improvement categories such as carpentry, plumbing or gardening. The service is for free for tradesmen and private costumers. After winning a job, tradesmen are required to pay a fee that is 6% of their quote price. Tradesmen could also set the “job radar” for receiving emails about jobs which are specific to their field and locality. Moreover, MyHammer customers can rate the tradesmen and leave feedback. They can also upload pictures so that service providers could see already in advance what needs to be repaired, painted or fixed. The right tradesman may chosen basing on price, qualification, customer feedback or availability. Therefore, the cheapest does not need to be taken.
