Common Name can be used in conjunction with, or as a substitute for, personal or scientific names. For example, "Ethanoic acid", while an accurate scientific name, is more recognized by the "common name" of "acetic acid"; "Sodium chloride" has a "common name" of "salt" or "table salt".
