Born in [[Denver, Colorado]] and raised in [[Orange, California]], Doug Fields earned his [[Bachelor's degree]] from [[Vanguard University]] and his [[Master of Divinity]] degree from [[Fuller Theological Seminary]]. He served as a youth pastor at [[Mariners Church]] before becoming the Pastor of Student Ministries at Saddleback Church in 1992, where he earned a national reputation for his practical ideas and strategies at [[Rick Warren|Rick Warren's]] famed [[megachurch]]. With more than 25 years of youth ministry experience, he has authored or coauthored more than 40 books, including ''Purpose Driven Youth Ministry'' and ''Help! In 2006, Fields changed roles from Saddleback's Pastor of Student Ministries to Pastor of Life Development (which oversees the children, student, and college ministries). In 2008, Fields saw his dream of over 15 years come to fruition with the completion of the ''Refinery'', Saddleback's first permanent student ministry facility. Costing $20 million, the state-of-the-art facility is considered the premier student ministry facility in the world. The ''Refinery'' houses Saddleback's middle school ministry (''Wildside''), high school ministry (''HSM''), college ministry (''Crave''), and young adults ministry, (''Fuel'').
