Doug Fields is an American evangelical Christian author, speaker and consultant, specializing in youth ministries. Fields formerly served as the Pastor of Life Development at Saddleback Church in Orange County, California.
Biography
Born in Denver, Colorado and raised in Orange, California, Doug Fields earned his Bachelor's degree from Vanguard University and his Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. He served as a youth pastor at Mariners Church before becoming the Pastor of Student Ministries at Saddleback Church in 1992, where he earned a national reputation for his practical ideas and strategies at Rick Warren's famed megachurch. With more than 25 years of youth ministry experience, he has authored or coauthored more than 40 books, including Purpose Driven Youth Ministry and Help! I'm a Student Leader.[1] Purpose Driven Youth Ministry, which Fields’ wrote in 1998, is still considered required reading in many evangelical Christian university and seminary youth ministry courses.

In 2006, Fields changed roles from Saddleback's Pastor of Student Ministries to Pastor of Life Development (which oversees the children, student, and college ministries). In 2008, Fields saw his dream of over 15 years come to fruition with the completion of the Refinery, Saddleback's first permanent student ministry facility. Costing $20 million, the state-of-the-art facility is considered the premier student ministry facility in the world. The Refinery houses Saddleback's middle school ministry (Wildside), high school ministry (HSM), college ministry (Crave), and young adults ministry, (Fuel). Since moving into the Refinery, all the student ministries have seen tremendous growth, with more than 2,500 young people attending services in the facility each week.[2]
With an ever growing demand of speaking, writing, and leadership/ministry consulting, Fields resigned from Saddleback in September 2009. This allowed him to pursue ministry opportunities that best aligned with his gift for teaching and relational leadership, while still giving him a volunteer opportunity to engage in his first love: “in-the-trenches” ministry to teenagers and youth workers. He will continue to preach from time to time in Warren’s absence. Fields still participates in various high school ministry events at the church and remains connected to the youth ministry.[3] He is the founder of SimplyYouthMinistry.com [1] and a frequent speaker at Youth Specialties and other national youth ministry conferences. Fields resides in southern Orange County with his wife, Cathy, and three teenage children.[4]
