There are high chances that users will click on a link or open a message that comes from a familiar source.

The other ways of taking the users to a fraud websites are emails and pop-ups. Generally, pop-ups offer tempting offers and people click on them in view of fetching good offers and deals. Posing as a legitimate company, these companies obtain sensitive personal data and illegally conduct transactions on your existing accounts.

Now the question arises that in such a pace of time where people are running from one thing to another and are always prest on time, how can one detect that the link they have opened is legitimate or not. Below are some points which will help you to detect the fraud websites.

Check if the web address of the link is correct - Whenever you open a websites, check carefully at the web address for the spelling. Many fake sites trap the visitors with a minor change in the spelling and trick them into divulging their personal information without realizing that they are not on the real site. Also, check if the web address begins with https:// or not, websites beginning with https are safe and the information shared will be kept encrypted.

Check the links on the website - If you suspect that the website you have opened is fake, click on some links on the page before giving out any personal information. Many sites put links in the exact places where the real company does but in phishing sites, these links do not open or will lead you to a blank page.

Verify the sender of the message - Majority of the online scams send you messages posing as your bank or a company of your trust. They try to fool you with faking about some issue with your account or claim that you have won an online lottery and then ask for your account details for the same. You can avoid this situation by checking the email address of the sender before you click on any link that is present in the mail. Most phishers have a private email account or even a free one through hotmail, Yahoo, etc. This is the biggest indication of a scam.

Most of these fraudulent websites contain viruses or spyware which may continue to run in the background without your knowledge. Thus, it is always better to have good anti-virus software installed.
