Phytosome is a marketing term for a patent process for producing herbal extracts.

It is claimed[1] that phytosomes are better absorbed and have better results than "conventional herbal extracts". Products marketed using this term include acytl-l-carnatine.

An attempt to trademark the term failed on appeal[2]

Legal analysis held "...Applicant’s fatal error, according to the Board, was in using the term as the sole designation for its new product."[2]

At least one dictionary has defined it as “a new term cosmetologists are using for the combination of liposomes ... and plant extracts.” Template:Fact
