The ECDL was created in 1997 initially for European countries but after its success was expanded in 1999 to incorporate countries outside Europe thus the ICDL was formed. The Core and Advanced ECDL and ICDL syllabuses were reviewed in 2007 in order to ensure that they reflected technology advances and relevant practices; this resulted in the completion of the ECDL and ICDL Core syllabus v5.0 and Advanced syllabus v2.0, which will both be phased in during 2009/2010. For more information on syllabus changes and v5.0/v2.0 syllabus downloads, please visit our Syllabus 2009-2010 page.
