Buddy Roemer

Charles "Buddy" Roemer was governor of Louisiana from 1988 to 1992. Elected as a Democrat, he switched his party affiliation to become a Republican in 1991. He began his political career in 1981 as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Louisiana's 4th district, which includes the Shreveport area, where Roemer spent his early years on a 2,000-acre cotton plantation. After being defeated in Louisiana's 1991 gubernatorial primary, Roemer founded a commercial plastic company called the Sterling Group, which focused on international trade with Mexico. After an unsuccessful run for the governorship of Louisiana in 1995, Roemer--a graduate of Harvard College and the Harvard Business School--returned to the world of finance as an investor and executive. He is president and CEO of Business First Bank, headquartered in Baton Rouge. In March 2011 Roemer announced that he would seek the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
