Platted in 1855, Arcola is in the northern corner of what was once known as the Broomcorn Belt. Broomcorn, used in broom making, has a finer leaf and bushier tassel than grain corn. Homemade quilts and crafts can be found at a large Amish community west of town near Arthur.

Locust ST, is dedicated to presenting the Amish way of life. A 15-minute video introduces visitors to the life of the Old Order Amish. Displays feature Amish crafts, traditional clothing, horse-drawn buggies, and buildings. Allow 1 hour minimum. Closed all major holidays. Rockome Gardens has an array of rockwork and flower gardens. Specialty shops such as a haunted cave, a craft shop, and an Amish house also are on the grounds. A broom making demonstration and a train ride are also some of the visitor favorites. Rockome Gardens is a seasonal attraction, open only in warmer weather.
