All drivers need car insurance . It's the law that every driver needs to have motor insurance. Generally car insurance is one of those things considered to be a `necessary evil' but when you think about it, it's actually there to protect you and other drivers on the UK roads.

It's the law that every driver needs to have motor insurance. Car insurance may be deemed as expensive but it is a necessity - it is there to keep yourself and other drivers protected on the roads.
When you're buying car insurance for women, the insurance rate for a female driver is going to be cheaper than it would be for a male driver. Men may think this is an unfair advantage, but accidents happen every day on UK roads, and statistics show that although women drivers are just as likely as men to have an accident, it tends to be at a lower speed or generally less serious, bumps and scratches, that kind of thing. So although women are less likely to make a big claim on their car insurance, it's just as important to get the necessary cover. When you're involved in an accident, repairs could be needed to your car, maybe to the other driver's vehicle too, and people could be injured. Wouldn't you rather an insurance company pick up the costs, than have them come out of your own pocket? It's a serious business, and in case you missed it ... it's the law!

Why Car Insurance for Women Costs Less

So it's not just because girls are so much cleverer and prettier than men, that car insurance companies love us so much they treat women to cheaper car insurance . There are facts behind it ...

Government figures show that over 92% of convictions for driving offences in the UK are for men.
Fact: Government figures show that over 92% of convictions for driving offences in the UK are for men.
  −
Fact: Men are found responsible for 98% of all convictions for dangerous driving.
  −
So statistically, women are (in fact) safer and more law abiding drivers.
  −
But the fairness of women paying less for car insurance has not gone unchallenged. Recently the European Union debated whether insurers could charge less based on gender discrimination. Insurance companies demonstrated that cheaper car insurance for women is based on statistics and not discrimination against men. A decision against the insurance companies would be particularly unfair for young girl drivers who are much less likely to be involved in an accident than boys of the same age.

Why car insurance companies consider female drivers a lower risk
Female drivers are considered a lower risk by car insurance companies not simply because of their gender, but because they have different driving habits to men.

Statistics (the ones the underwriters have mountains of) show that although women drivers in the UK have a similar number accidents to men, they tend to be less serious and the value of claims are much lower, which is why car insurance companies consider them to be a lower risk.
  −
Not only that, lady drivers tend to drive more slowly, carefully and shorter distances than men, giving them less opportunity to be involved in a major accident. Obviously this is a generalisation, which is why it's not just your gender that influences the cost of your car insurance. Young women drivers are still inexperienced, so they are slower than older women drivers to recognise the dangers. This means that younger drivers (and yes, it's backed up by the statistics) are more likely to be involved in an accident, However car insurance for a young lady driver is still much cheaper than for a young male driver.
