This file is shared for historical purposes. It reflects a reaction to a controversy on Wikia.com, where a wiki featured "spanking art" that also included images of real children. There was a repugnance that such themes and images were being supported financially by big-name advertisers. Jimmy Wales was slow to act on closure of the site (25 January 2008), and so this boycott agenda is what finally moved him and Gil Penchina to act. Wales complained, "Have you made a complaint through the proper channels or did you just jump to threats right away?" There had been a lengthy discussion on Wales' Wikipedia User talk page that went into elaborate detail and provided sources pointing to more than just one image, and that discussion had begun the morning of Tuesday, 20 January 2008. The discussion was presented to Wales on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but he only deleted one offending image of a troop of Boy Scouts, and nothing further. Gil Penchina would later comment, "What's sad about your earlier ultimatum, is that on our site, they listened to us and tried to respect our requests. Given some time, I had hopes they would get to the right place."
