History and overview

Centerbase was established by software entrepreneur John Forbes.[3] The development of its platform was shaped by feedback from law firms as well as insights from Forbes' daughter, who was a law school student at the time. The company debuted its first product at the 2017 ABA TECHSHOW, presenting a platform that combined key law firm functions into a single system.[4][5]

In 2021, Centerbase purchased Family Law Software, a company that provides tools for divorce and financial planning calculations.[6][7][8] During the same year, the private equity firm Mainsail Partners provided the company with growth equity funding.[9][10][11][12]

Centerbase acquired Legalfit in 2022, a marketing platform that provides website design and SEO services to law firms.[13][14][3]

Products and features

The main product offered by Centerbase is a cloud-based platform that unifies functions such as timekeeping, billing, matter management, accounting, and customer relationship management.[2] A significant feature is its Automated Time Capture tool, which monitors activities within applications like Microsoft Word and Outlook and records them as potential billable events for review, thereby improving time tracking accuracy.[15]

In 2023, the company rolled out a profitability reporting feature, which permits law firms to analyze key financial metrics like revenue, expenses, and billable hours.[16][5] The next year, Centerbase incorporated a document management system that leverages Microsoft SharePoint technology. It includes features for document version control, optical character recognition, and e-signatures.[17]

Centerbase received a patent for its Automated Time Capture technology in 2024.[18][19]
