Background
Early Short Films
In 2002 Alex Gilbert released two Cartoons to present at his school. They are 3min long each and are to promote his cartoon character at the time. Later in 2002 Alex decided to work on a Full Short Film at his school but the movie stoped production at the end of 2002 because of the lack of Actors and times to film. The Movie has now been moved to the end of 2010 even though it was expected for released in 2002. In 2004 Alex started releasing more short films over the year which were showen at the Intermediate he has in at the time. These films included a short film that had Alex falling out of a wheeled trolley and almost breaking his arm.
Mentally Insane Records
At the start of 2009 Alex announced the new label "Ice Cold Records" which is now Mentally Insane Records. The name was changed because of copyright claims over the name. This new label is now for all music albums and work that are released under Mentally Insane Records to get out there for young artists who have talent and want to get their music out there. This new label is releasing Alex's 6th album "No Time Like Now" in October and Billy Harper's "Collision and Impact" which has now been cancelled due to Billy leaving the label.
In August 2009 the company Audio Odyssey was noticed of a down release of Alex Gilbert's albums on the iTunes Music Store. This was because Mentally Insane Records moved to the new music distributor "WaTunes". "WaTunes" has sent a formal letter to the iTunes Music Store demanding the old distritubor to remove the older albums of Alex Gilbert's which was apparently leaked and can easily be seen due to the spelling errors on some of the tracks. Alex says that
"This is unfair to the Label and the only thing we can do is hope and wait for WaTunes to try help us out of removing the albums". The only material that WaTunes owns the rights to is the latest music that was created in 2009. Everything else that is released before 2009 is not suppose to be there and should be removed.
At the start of September the issue was fixed and WaTunes said that Audio Odyssey is getting reported because of fraud of other artists that have been distrubiting with them aswell.
No Time Like Now Album
In May 2009 Alex Gilbert started working on his 6th album "No Time Like Now". Alex decided to get some other producers to help with the album instead of him producing the whole album like he did for his 2008 5th album "The Peace That Starts War". The first couple of tracks for this album were the "No Time Like Now" main title song and "Got A Gun" which features rapper True. The album focuses on events that have unfolded on people in the past in their life. The title name is refered to being a time that will never be the same.Alex Gilbert produced the song "This World Pt 3" with digital technology that he has tried to learn to use in the past, The song has a guitar solo that is sampled from the song "I Wish It Would Rain" by Phil Colins. The track has been noticed as a classic rock song mixed with rap.
In August the "Whangarei Report" had interviewd Alex Gilbert on this new album as well as the album being avaliable on the local library for listeners to hear. The deluxe version of the album has two extra tracks that were un released due to Alex not wanting them on the album. The song "End Of The Road" is on the deluxe version which is also named "The End Of The Road" the version on the deluxe copy on the album has an extra instrument that had been digitally arranged on the track. This was to adviod copyright issues and the track has been credited as a sample. The other deluxe version track is called "No,No,No,No" and is a catchy like song about anything he can think of when Alex is rapping on the song. The deluxe version will be released a week after the online release in October. There are only 3 copies of the deluxe version made on a CD aswell as one version of the Clean Version on a CD.
Leaving the music
In late 2009 Alex announced that he will be not working on any new projects with his music and will only be working on his film work for now.
