Common Name can be used in conjunction with, or as a substitute for, personal or scientific names. Examples:
- Cheryl Sarkisian LaPiere is more commonly known by her legal name Cher.
- Ethanoic acid, while an accurate scientific name, is more recognized by the common name of "acetic acid"
- Sodium chloride has a common name of "salt" or "table salt".
To differentiate between different groups of common names, categories such as Category:Person, Category:Chemical, etc can be utilized.
