Hikers may catch glimpses of such rare and endangered species as Florida alligators, red-cockaded woodpeckers, indigo snakes and southern bald eagles. One of the forest's special features is Trout Pond, a recreational facility designed for the physically limited. It offers a fishing pier and an interpretive trail.
