History
The company's co-founders and co-CEOs, Ricard Domenech[4] and David Pérez,[5] previously worked at Zurich Insurance Group. In 2017, they created Mondo,[6] a digital platform specializing in travel insurance that sought to digitize and simplify the purchasing of travel insurance.
One of its main innovations was the development of a travel assistance app[7] that allows users to access medical care and manage incidents during their trips.
In November 2018, the company closed its third investment round, bringing in the international fund Howzat Partners, Banc Sabadell (through BStartup 10), Bankinter, and Cartera de Inversiones CM.[8]
During the first year, the company reached one million euros in sales, a figure that tripled the following year.[9]
The company began its international expansion in 2019, first operating in Italy[10] and later internationally.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, it strengthened its technology and its mobile app to offer medical assistance abroad[11] 24 hours a day. With the reopening of borders in 2021, travel insurance purchasing grew by 347%[12] compared to the previous year.
In 2022, Heymondo surpassed pre-pandemic levels with revenues of five million euros.[13] One year later, it expanded its presence to France,[14] the US, and Portugal. On March 5, 2024, the company announced its official name change in Spain to Heymondo.[15]
In February 2025, the US fund J.C. Flowers & Co. acquired a majority stake in the company,[16] with the founders remaining at the head of management.
Operations
Heymondo focuses its activity on the sale of online travel insurance, especially geared towards leisure travel.[17]
Besides Spain, the company operates[18] in Italy, France, Portugal, and the United States.[19]
Business model and strategy
Heymondo is a travel insurance brokerage that collaborates with different insurers and medical assistance networks. Its proposition is based on the digital user experience, 24-hour assistance, and the adaptation of rates to different traveler profiles.[20]
In 2025, the company launched an advertising campaign under the slogan “We give you the best coverage, but we don’t make you immortal,” with the goal of connecting with new travelers and strengthening its digital positioning.[21]
During the first half of 2025, Heymondo registered 82% growth in premiums compared to the same period of the previous year.[22]
