Founded in 1799, Aurora was originally settled by Revolutionary War veterans during the land grant period resulting from the Northwest Territory Ordinance of 1787. the town was once considered the cheese-making capital of the United States. Boasting a diverse economy and a growing cultural community, Aurora maintains its Western Reserve heritage.

Geauga Lake Amusement Park, 3 miles west on SR 43, is a 240-acre entertainment park with more than 100 rides and attractions, featuring roller coasters, children's rides, and picnic facilities. SeaWorld, 3 miles west on SR 43, is a 90-acre marine life park presenting a variety of show and attractions. Aquatic shows featuring killer whales, walruses, sea lions, and otters.
