[edit] About Novel
The story follows Franklin L. Concord, a civil servant who works in the [department of databases]]. Franklin seemingly questions The Corporation, life, society and the truths most have come to accept as lies.
The novel 2034 challenges readers, in that the actual story (though fiction) is footnoted with empirical reports, legislation, and economic data from modern times.
The storyline of 2034 holds that into 2012 the U.S. Government has become so overloaded with debt, the entity begins shutting down services after it can no longer maintain the country's nation debt. The story shows that with overleveraging, comes the possibility of the U.S. Dollar's devaluation after foreign investors cease purchasing Treasury Securities. The lack of foreign buyers of U.S. Treasuries forces credit devaluation whereby the government is subsequently required to drastically raise interest rates to attract lenders. In the end, a second round of mortgage defaults plagues the country into 2010 to 2012, triggering even more recession and dismay.
The Corporation is painted as a mysterious group of despot politicians, corporate executives, international diplomats and military leaders, who 'swoop in like angels in the night' to save the American public when the government is on the verge of total collapse.
The Corporation proposes the first ever "Socially Engineered Employee Stock Ownership Country" SEESOC, whereby each citizen is guaranteed "safety and security" - as long as each votes to overthrow the U.S. Constitution in favor of the new government.
In 2034, the employees soon find out they have become nothing more than corporate slaves after falling victim to the collectivist propaganda and willingly voting to overthrow the U.S. Constitution.
Moreover, the novel 2034 shows how quickly society can deteriorate when individuals begin to allow 'corporate policy and legislation' to supersede human kindness and care.
The author attempts to engage readers in the discussions of materialism, tribalism, greed, fear, dogma, religion and information. In addition, Whistler presents the term MediaThink whereby individuals have fallen victim to emotional manipulation within the information they receive daily.
